A man was last night recovering in hospital with serious head injuries after an accident in Chipping Norton.
A 72-year-old man was walking along the pavement outside the Blue Boar pub in High Street when a pick-up towing a trailer went past him at about 1.30pm today.
Police spokesman Chris Kearney said the trailer appeared to have come loose and swept the pedestrian off his feet.
The man fell into the road and banged his head.
Mr Kearney said: “Luckily, the man was not run over, but he sustained serious injuries to his head in the fall.
“The driver stopped at the scene and has spoken to police. No arrests have been made at this time.”
A passer-by, who did not wish to be named, said he saw the man lying half on the pavement and half on the road.
He was taken to The Horton Hospital, in Banbury, with injuries which were not thought by the ambulance service to be life-threatening.
