PARENTS applying for their children to start school or move to secondary school are advised not to post the applications because of the planned Royal Mail strike.
Up to 120,000 staff across the UK were due to strike today and tomorrow after last-ditch talks between Royal Mail and the Communcation Workers’ Union failed last night.
The advice is being issued by Oxfordshire County Council to try to prevent submissions missing deadlines on Monday, November 2, for secondary school applications, and Friday, November 13, for primary applications.
For secondary schools, parents are advised to hand in their forms at their child’s Oxfordshire primary school. If their child attends a primary school in a different county, or an independent school, hand in the form at any county community, voluntary-controlled or voluntary-aided primary school.
Parents with children due to begin school in the academic year 2010-11 are advised to hand in their forms at one of the schools they have listed, or at any other state-maintained primary school in the Starting School leaflet.
Parents can also apply online at oxfordshire.gov.uk
