The family of an Oxfordshire mum murdered 14 years ago today called for justice to be done.
Mother-of-two Vikki Thompson, 30, was found barely conscious, bruised and caked on blood at the bottom of a railway embankment in the village where she lived in Ascott-under-Wychwood in August 1995.
She was taken to hospital with severe head injuries but later died six days later.
This morning police arrested a 34-year-old man in the same village on suspicion of murder following a dawn raid and he remains in police custody.
Mrs Thompson’s husband Jonathan and mother Margaret Simpson released a statement moments ago.
They said: “Fourteen years ago Vikki was brutally attacked whilst out walking her dog along a country lane. She never recovered consciousness and died six days later.
“Vikki was only 30 years old.
“She was a loving wife and mother to Matthew and Jennifer. She was much loved by all her family and friends and is desperately missed.
“Time has passed by now, but still we never forget the loss we suffered, when Vikki was taken away from us.
“We are aware of the arrest this morning and support the police's work in trying to find who killed Vikki.
“She deserves the justice that has not yet been found."
Detectives are continuing to search the house in Ascott-under-Wychwood where the raid took place this morning.
