Police investigating the brutal killing of mother-of-two Vikki Thompson 14 years ago have this morning arrested an Oxfordshire man on suspicion of murder.
Detectives are currently holding the 34-year-old man on suspicion of murder after arresting him at a house in Ascott-under-Wychwood, near Chipping Norton, at around 6.30am.
Part-time waitress Mrs Thompson, 30, was attacked as she walked her dog Daisy near her home in Ascott-under-Wychwood on August 12, 1995.
She was found barely conscious by husband Jonathan and three friends on a bridleway at the bottom of a railway embankment near the Cotswold Railway line, three hours after she was expected to return home.
Mrs Thompson was covered in blood and badly beaten.
She was taken to hospital but died six days later.
Friends and family, including her children Matthew and Jenny, joined searches of the area where her body was found.
A televised appeal featured on Crimewatch and £20,000 reward was offered for information leading to a conviction.
Det Supt Barry Halliday, of Thames Valley Police's major crime review team, said: “As with all unsolved murders, Thames Valley Police has given a commitment to Vikki's family that we would continue to investigate her murder."
In 1997 a 21-year-old man was acquitted of murdering Mrs Thompson.
Detectives remain at the scene of this morning’s arrest.
