Oxford is blessed to have many world-class institutions, none more so than the array of medical facilities housed here.
Today, the Oxford Mail publishes the first pictures inside the new Oxford Heart Centre, the latest addition to the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Five years in the making, the £29m centre is the envy of towns and cities across Britain and is so well-equipped that experts predict it will save hundreds of lives.
Unsurprisingly, patients inside the facility don’t want to be moved, the staff love working there and it has already gained a reputation as a centre of excellence.
The NHS sometimes gets a rough ride, but in Oxford we should count our blessings that, unlike other cities, the facilities, doctors and army of healthcare professionals are world class.
The extraordinary lengths people go to to fundraise for projects like Oxford Heart Centre is testament to that.
