PROTESTERS marched through Witney after they said their voices were not being heard on issues affecting the town.
About 30 people waving banners and holding candles made their way from St Mary’s Church, in Church Green, to the Town Hall, in Market Square, yesterday.
They were demanding a bigger say on the planned Cogges Link Road, shortage of allotments, and Fairtrade in Witney.
One of the protesters, Richard MacKenzie, said: “I would urge other locals to make the same pledge and revive democracy in the town.”
Isobel Lawrence, 25, pictured right, of West End, spoke outside the Town Hall.
She said: “There is no community here and the council doesn’t really care. It’s sad.
“Witney shouldn’t be a satellite town of Oxford, it should have a heart itself.”
Witney town mayor James Mills said the Cogges Link Road was in the hands of the county council and Fairtrade up to individual conscience.
He added: “Richard MacKenzie has been asked to come and speak to the council at least four times. So far, Richard has not spoken at council.
“We want more allotment land and if anyone can help us find more allotment land, we are keen to get it.”
