CAMPAIGNERS took to the streets of Oxford to call for action on poverty and climate change.
People from three charities gathered outside St Michael at the Northgate Church, in Cornmarket Street, on Saturday and set off alarms to demonstrate that time will run out for the planet unless something is done soon.
The campaigners from Christian Aid, Oxfam and Christian Concern for One World also urged Oxford East MP Andrew Smith to lobby the Prime Minister before he attends the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December.
Passers-by were invited to record their own video messageS to Gordon Brown about climate change.
The event was part of the Stand Up and Take Action global initiative which involved campaigners in 50 countries around the world.
Christian Aid worker Amy Merone said: “There’s a real risk that climate change will make poverty permanent if we don’t take decisive action now.”
