Police today appealed for witnesses after a hit-and-run crash near Abingdon on Saturday in which a car ended up in a ditch.

At around 4.30pm, a white Ford Fiesta, travelling towards Long Whittenham, and a black Ford Escort, travelling towards Brightwell Cum Sotwell, collided on Sires Hill, Long Wittenham.

The Fiesta left the road and ended up on its side in a ditch off the road. The Escort did not stop at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Fiesta were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, by ambulance following the collision, with cuts and bruises and a back injury. They were discharged from hospital later that evening.

PC Ed Crofts, of Abingdon Roads Policing Department, said: ”I am very keen to speak to the driver of the Escort and would urge them to come forward to give their version of events to police.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the cars in the area beforehand, or who knows the identity of the driver of the Escot.”
