Marcus makes his Mark

The first game proved a very tight affair, with clear chances at a premium. The best move involving a one-two between Luca Sykes and Benjamin Merrill ending with the former opening the scoring with a powerful shot. Summertown came back however, battling hard and winning a string of corners after half-time from which they equalised through a well-taken volley by Hal Woodall. Kidlington defended well with Archie Devlin again making several fine saves to keep out the Summertown strikers, and they regained the lead through Judahne Medley who fired in a corner from Jude Boag-Matthews from the edge of the box. Summertown almost equalised with the last effort of the game and were unfortunate to see their shot rebound off the post to finish the first game 1-2 down when perhaps a draw would have been a fairer result.

The second game saw Kidlington have more of the possession and chances, with Marcus Tranter and Ben Stewart controlling much of the game from the midfield. The only goal of the first half came from a long throw by Stewart to Tranter who ran though and calmly slotted in the far corner from an acute angle. Summertown created a few chances but saw a solid Kidlington defence restrict their clear shooting opportunities. After half time Kidlington began to take control having a number of efforts on target before a corner from Stewart picked out Tranter on the edge of the box who smashed home a half-volley into the top corner. With time running out Stewart scored an excellent long range shot and with almost the last kick of the game returned a goal-kick into the top right hand corner of the net from almost the half-way line to see Kidlington 4-0 winners and give them a 6-1 overall victory, which was slightly harsh on Summertown who were still in the tie until the last few minutes of the second match.
