Once again Derek Honey shows his ignorance about what to Catholics (I, myself am a practicing Catholic) has been a very special occasion.
I am of course referring to the relics of St Therese de Lisieux coming to many areas of Britain so that we who have a special devotion to her (“the uneducated faithful”) may ask her intercession with God our Father for various favours.
By the way Derek, I am well educated and, what’s more, of above average intelligence.
By the time she left Britain, approximately one million people had stood for hours to see the reliquary – some even doing all-night vigils.
I don’t think the Catholic Church in this country needs to have a recruitment drive.
My last point is to point out that St Therese doesn't cure anybody. It is her intercession with God that her followers ask for.
It is true that we have a perfectly adequate NHS system; nobody denies that. But nobody refuses help from them, and instead goes to St Therese.
Also, on the point of dismemberment of her body, her soul having gone to heaven, the body just lies in the grave. So why not make use of it? Especially if good can come of her remains.
And believe me, she is resting in peace, in Heaven.
