A CAR, a sink, and a couple of strategically-placed Christmas puddings have helped a host of men preserve their modesty in a revealing calendar.
A dozen businessmen from Middle Barton and Bicester bared all for the Chaps for Baps 2010 calendar to raise money for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity and let people know it is not just women who can suffer from the disease.
The idea was the brainchild of Deb Hunt, 44, from Middle Barton, herself a survivor of breast cancer, who hit upon the notion of making a naked calendar with men over “copious amounts of wine” with friends.
She said: “We decided in order to raise awareness of the disease among men, and to gain support for the cause from local businesses, we would ask 12 local businessmen to each sponsor a month of the calendar.
“It’s a shame there are not more months in the year as there were more men than months who stepped forward to take part.
“They’ve all been very game as we kept the calendar very light-hearted.
“All the photos are black and white with a pink bra featured somewhere in the scene – in one case about his person.”
The £6.95 calendar was shot in locations around the county.
Johnny Ford – Mr January – posed for his picture while sitting in a bath in a stream in Middle Barton.
Mr Ford, 39, a plumber, said the shoot had been “an experience”.
He added: “The bath had a leak in it and kept filling up with water.
“But it’s for a great cause. I had an aunt who died from cancer and everyone knows what Debs has been through so I think we all wanted to do something to help.”
Phil Smith, 46, whose wife Anne-Marie was one of the friends who helped Mrs Hunt formulate the calendar plan, posed for his shot partially covered by chef’s clothing.
His company, Keen Edge, sells catering supplies.
He said: “It was a bit nerve-wracking – and cold. It was a lot of fun, but we did want to get across a serious message that it is not just women who get breast cancer.
“Men need to be aware too.”
Mrs Hunt is also planning to scale Mount Kilimanjaro in September next year with three friends in an attempt to raise £20,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
