Abingdon Youth kept up their 100% record with a hard fought win against Kidlington Youth.

Abingdon kicked off and were under pressure from the start as Kidlington were passing the ball around and were frustrating Abingdon. 10 minutes into the half Abingdon got a grip of the game and they were finding holes in the Kidlington defence.

James Pearce-Shaw then broke the deadlock after he ran onto a through ball and beat the offside trap and rounded the Kidlington keeper and rolled the ball into an empty net.

Abingdon then looked to be cruising, but a lapse in their defence saw Josh Luland smack an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box to put Kidlington level just before half time.

Then it was end to end for the last 5 minutes. The half time whistle couldn’t come quick enough for both managers and parents watching.

Second half and Abingdon started to play some good football and had Kidlington on the back foot for long periods of the game. Both James Pearce-Shaw and Daniel Jacob were unlucky not to add to Abingdon's score. Then Abingdon went 2-1 up after James Pearce-Shaw finished from 8 yards after some good work from the Abingdon midfield.

Kidlington's head didn’t drop and Abingdon had to defend for their lives in the last 10 minutes as Kidlington peppered the Abingdon goal, and with some clinical finishing Kidlington could of got a couple. James Pearce-Shaw could have eased Abingdon nerves but fired wide from 5 yards. Kidlington went up the other end and almost snatched a deserved equalizer. Abingdon held on for a hard fought victory.

Well played both teams for a heart stopping and enjoyable game.
