Bordeaux needs little introduction as the world’s best-known wine region and one which holds a special meaning for us here in the UK. It is from here that some of the world’s most famous (and expensive) wines come. It is, however, possible to find some very good wines at really affordable prices and this case has been hand picked with quality and price in mind.
The Wines of Bordeaux case costs £113 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.
Chateau la Freynelle Sauvignon/Sémillon 2007, Entre Deux Mers: So many Entre Deux Mers wines seem to lack freshness — not this one! This is a delightfully crisp and clean style that really refreshes the palate.
Chateau Haut-Gaudin 2002, Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux: ‘Englishman’s Claret’ — cigarbox, tobacco and cedarwood underpinned by good minerality. A superbly balanced wine.
Chateau Haut-Grelot 2006, Premieres Côtes de Blaye: This merlot/cabernet sauvignon blend is full of superb aromatic fruit and lead pencil minerality — a well-structured and memorable wine.
Chateau Nardou 2006, Côtes de Francs: Made from old vines that produce superb fruit concentration, this is a great merlot-dominated wine with rich ripe fruit.
