Sir – The longstanding debate about extending the Lodge Hill A34 interchange continues. An additional southbound exit and access to the A34 would help those in north Abingdon, and would clearly take pressure off the Marcham road interchange and the busy road into Abingdon.
However, would a junction at Lodge Hill be that useful? A quick look at a map shows it would certainly add significant mileage to one’s journey. I find it puzzling why campaigners have never pressed for any additional interchange to be at the point where the A34 crosses the Wootton road.
Access here would be far more useful to those living west of the Oxford Road in North Abingdon, and to those living along the Wootton road and the Barracks. Even those to the east would save almost a mile relative to a Lodge Hill junction.
If further access to the A34 is to be built, let’s at least put it in the best place.
John Evans, Abingdon
