A WOMAN who was repeatedly raped by serial child sex attacker Brian Hoverd last night spoke of her relief as he was jailed for 14 years.

Hoverd was convicted at Oxford Crown Court in July of 10 indecent assaults and seven counts of rape on young girls during the late 1980s and early 1990s – charges he always denied.

Jailing him yesterday, Judge Anthony King called him a danger to children.

The trial heard that Hoverd, of Charterville Close, in Minster Lovell, west Oxfordshire, repeatedly raped one of his victims when she was aged between four and 12 years old.

After he was sentenced, she said: “I’m glad it is all finally over, it is such a relief.

“It’s been two years since I first went to the police and it’s been a long wait.

“Prison doesn’t matter. I don’t really see it as justice for what he has done. But at least it is a proper sentence, 14 years is a long time.

“I just want to now get on with my life and for everyone know he is guilty.”

The victim’s mother said she was satisfied with the sentence.

She added: “He has 14 years and it is all over, but my daughter has to live with it forever.”

Hoverd was also convicted of repeatedly indecently assaulting a second girl when she was five in the late 1980s.

The jury also found Hoverd guilty of raping a 13-year-old girl in 1994.

He grabbed her as she was walking home and hauled her into a churchyard where he raped her, the court heard.

Roger Harrison, defending, told the court former farm worker Hoverd had not committed any child sex offences for 15 years since he got married.

His wife and teenage handicapped daughter were devoted to him, he added.

Mr Harrison said: “In the time leading up to sentencing, in my judgement, he really is a broken man.”

Judge King jailed Hoverd for 14 years adding the “totality reflects the criminality”.

He added: “It is obvious to me you are a danger to all young girls.”
