A CYCLE-CRAZY five-year-old rode 17 miles around London – and then wanted to do more.
Owen Scott, who only got rid of his stabilisers three months ago, took part in the London Sky Ride last month with his father Ryan.
They cycled from Mary-lebone station to the start line at Buckingham Palace to join about 65,000 other cyclists who rode 10 miles around some of the capital’s most famous landmarks.
They pedalled along the River Thames, taking in Trafalgar Square, St Paul’s Cathedral and Tower Bridge, Ambulance technician Mr Scott, 31, of Coltsfoot Leyes, Bicester, said grandfather Dave Scott taught Owen to ride a bike.
He said: “Owen got a new bike for his birthday and five days later took part in the Mayor of London’s Skyride.
“The computer on my bike came up with a total distance of 17.3 miles.”
Owen, a pupil at Bure Park Primary School, has raised about £500 for the Save the Children charity.
Mr Scott said: “The bike ride came about after we watched a TV advert which featured impoverished children.
“He was asking questions and I explained to him what poverty was. He seemed really moved by it and took note of what was being said.
“Almost at same time, a magazine piece about the London bike ride came up.”
Mr Scott said when the event was over Owen did not complain about any aches and pains and added: “When we sat on the train, he said ‘Daddy, if it’s not too late, can I go for a bike ride?’”
