Carterton residents are being warned about a suspicious door-to-door potato saleswoman.
Police received a number of calls about a woman who was offering to sell potatoes in Bovingdon Road around noon yesterday.
The woman, who police said had light brown hair and spoke with an Irish accent, was not carrying any potatoes.
Residents said the woman had been peering through the windows of empty homes.
She was wearing a three-quarter length brown coat.
Chief Insp Jack Malhi said: “I would like to remind people to always be vigilant about anyone who comes to their door without prior appointment, looking to sell goods.
“If you, or anyone you know, has received a similar visit, we would be keen to hear from you as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information should call Witney police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
