With conditions perfect for football both teams put on a thrilling game that was only settled in the final seconds.
St Edmunds had the better of the first half with the Quarry Rovers defenders keeping the away team at bay with some determined tackling. It looked as though the teams would go into the break with honours even but a long kick from the St Edmunds keeper was not dealt with by the home defence and Omar Rodriguez pounced to give St Edmunds a half time lead.
The second period was a reverse of the first for Quarry. The Quarry midfield of Rahul Bahl,Rowan Allison Drake and Lewis Hopkins combined well to set up Arthur Galley for a shot that hit the bar.
With Quarry going close, hitting the post and bar and St Edmunds replying with a thunderous shot that hit the bar,the second period was as exciting as the first.Quarry's mounting pressure finally paid dividends when Rowan Allison Drake hit a right foot drive into the corner of the St Edmunds net. With time running out it looked like honours would be even.St Edmunds though had the chance for one last attack and when Quarry again failed to deal with a St Edmunds cross the ball fell to April Bedford who, with the last kick of the game, calmly stroked the ball home.
A wonderful game played in the right spirit.
Well done to both teams.
