VILLAGERS were determined to be ready to mark their millennium in 1986 – the logo for the celebrations was designed two years before. A competition held in 1984 was won by BBC TV producer Stuart Dewey, who lived in the village. A banner bearing the dates 986-1986 flew from Cholsey Church, bearing the slogan Cholsey 1000. Mr Dewey is pictured with schools competition winner Robert Hendy, second left, and runners-up Dawn Munday and Mark Ramos, both 10.
One of the many attractions at the village show in 1982 was a scale model of an agricultural engine, seen in the second picture under the control of its owner, Pat Beasley.
The village junior school was lucky enough to have its own nature reserve nearby, but it needed a lot of attention from parents, staff and pupils. In the third picture, a team is hard at work in 1978 creating a hide.
