DOZENS of dads will head to a fun day tomorrow in celebration of the role men play in bringing up children.
There will be live music, football and activities on offer at Dads Go Wild, a free event taking place at Oxford’s Hinksey Park, organised by the Oxfordshire Parenting Forum and Oxfordshire County Council.
The aim is to encourage male role models of all ages to spend time with their children and find out about the support and help available to them.
The event runs from 11am to 3pm at the park, off Abingdon Road.
Oxford fathers Conroy Harris and Glen Scrivener dreamed up the event last year.
Mr Scrivener, 38, a father of three from Blackbird Leys, who works for the parenting forum, said: “It’s sometimes hard for men to spend as much time as they may want to with their children. Dads Go Wild is a chance for any male role model to have fun with the children they care for.”
He added: “This is the second year the event has run and it will be bigger and better than last year.
“This is a celebration of fatherhood and, as such, we invite all men to head along. Fathers, stepdads, single dads, grandfathers and carers, or any men with children, should come and have a fun-packed day out.”
BBC TV presenter Dr Yan Wong, an Oxford University graduate who lives in the city, will be demonstrating some of the experiments from his science show Bang Goes the Theory.
He said: “Being a dad in Oxford, I have been very impressed with the support for children’s activities in the area, and I’m really pleased to help add some science to the mix.”
The event will also highlight the work of the county council’s Sure Start Children’s Centres , which hold sessions for fathers and children on Saturdays.
