THE voices of Oxford’s refugees and asylum seekers are to be heard in a new poetry anthology.
Some of the UK’s top poets teamed up with refugees to produce an anthology of poetry in a project organised by Oxford Brookes University.
The anthology, called See How I Land: Oxford Poets and Exiled Writers, was launched at the university on Tuesday.
Eden Habtemichael is a journalist from Eritrea. She worked with Oxford University English professor Lucy Newlyn to write about her daughter Segen’s love for ice-skating in Oxford. She said: “To arrive here with no house or friends is a big step and linked with the idea of my daughter’s first step on the ice.
“Her dream is to become a professional skater and the poem reflects my pride in her.”
The book is available from asylum-welcome.org for £10.
