Sir – Helena Whall writes (Letters, September 17) that the CPRE does not object to wind turbines on aesthetic grounds — she too regards them as beautiful — but feels that Horspath is not the right place for one because “it would seriously damage the landscape amenity”. Surely that is an aesthetic consideration?
She congratulates me for agreeing with the CPRE’s call for a “debate about on-shore wind turbines” — which I never mentioned — but ignores my ideas about other possible sources of renewable energy.
As for reducing street lights: isn’t the German idea which was described on the radio some time ago excellent: The lights only come on if a certain number is dialled on one’s mobile phone, and switch themselves off after 15 minutes (when one could, if need be, switch them on again).
