The backlog of post addressed to people in Oxfordshire has become “very big” after today's one-day strike at Royal Mail’s Swindon sorting office, according to union leaders.

Chris Rye, the Swindon branch secretary of the Communication Workers’ Union, said: “All shifts have been solidly behind the strike and the backlog will take some time to clear.”

Royal Mail spokesman Tom Prendergast said: “We have arrangements in place to restore normal service as quickly as possible.”
