IN REPLY to Susan Thomas (Letters, September 24) I am sorry that she feels appalled at the prospect of the closure of our borders to future immigrants.

But I feel she is in the minority. I am confident in saying that a vast number of the indigenous population want our borders closed immediately, let alone in a year’s time on the prospect of a Conservative government being voted in at the next election.

She also said that a vast majority of the Afghans at the ‘Jungle’ camp in Calais who were trying to get into this country are fleeing the Taliban. She believes they will now be forced into fighting British forces.

I have no idea where she got her information from but, would it not be better if they copied the young Polish people who fled when Germany invade their country in 1939 and stood side by side with our forces to regain it.

Could not these men do likewise instead of letting our young men and women give their lives for their country. Another point I would like to make is that France is a safe country where they would be able to get asylum but they insist that their intention is to come to England.
