I applaud Labour's new law which comes into effect tomorrow. From then it will be illegal for hospitality outlets to use tips to make up staff wages. They will now have to pay staff salaries in full and allow tips to be an additional bonus as their customers intended.
Waiting and kitchen staff often work long, unsociable hours usually for just the minimum wage so it's only fair that their tips should be an addition to their wage not part of it.
