With a depleted central midfield, Ryan Davis (broken arm) and Adam Shaw (on family duty) both missing, Newbury were somewhat under the gun against a strong Cumnor team. The entire game was pretty much end to end stuff with both teams having periods of dominance.
In the 25th Minute Alfie Davis-Ellard picked the ball up on the left and crossed to Jack Wickens who converted to put Newbury 1 up and it remained 0-1 to the break.
Cumnor continued to attack in the second half and there were good chances at both ends. In the 25th minute of the second half, Newbury’s relentless centre half, Scott Shaw, was forced to leave the pitch with a nagging groin injury and 2 minutes later Cumnor took advantage of the weakened defence and pounced on a loose ball in the box to even the score, making it 1-1 at the final whistle.
