Veteran Oxfordshire county councillor Charles Shouler, cabinet member for finance, has announced that is quitting his post due to ill health.
Mr Shouler declined to comment on the exact nature of his ill health when contacted by the Oxford Mail other than to say he was stepping down for "personal health reasons".
He will continue as a councillor having been a county councillor since 1989. He will officially leave his cabinet post on September 30.
Mr Shouler, a retired farmer, who was born and brought up in Chesterton and farmed there for many years.
He currently lives in Bicester and represents Bicester South at County Hall.
