A WITNEY infant school is leading the way in a campaign to reduce the number of plastic bags used by shoppers.
St Mary’s Infant School, in Church Green, is one of the first schools to sign up to campaign Bags of Life in Witney.
From October to January, every shopper who refuses a plastic bag in a participating town centre shop will be given a voucher. These vouchers are then collected by the schools, with prizes for those who collect the most.
The campaign is funded by Oxfordshire Waste Partnership and led by the Oxfordshire Town Chambers Network.
Teacher Amanda Bennett said: “Being based in the heart of Witney, we’re very happy to support this project.
“If we won this competition, we would put the funds towards improving our garden area. We would like to build raised beds so we can grow our own produce.”
