BOGUS charity collectors have been going door to door in Oxford city centre, police warned tonight.
Officers are advising people to be vigilant after reports of three men claiming to be from the RSPCA knocking on doors in Friars Wharf.
The men, who were seen between Monday and Wednesday, had been asking residents for their bank details.
Det Sgt Louise Tompkins said: “There have been three men seen calling door to door. One of the men was in his 40s and was wearing a green tabard. He has been described as having a large build with short, dark hair.
“The other two men are thought to be younger, possibly in their 30s.
“I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen these men in the area over the past couple of days, or with information as to who these men might be.
“I would also like to remind people not to give bank details to anyone who calls at their door who has not made a prior appointment.
“Always ask for identification and check those details with the organisation they claim to be from.
“If you are still unsure, contact the police. Any legitimate caller will be more than happy to wait and resolve the matter.
“This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Anyone with information can call Det Sgt Tompkins on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
