Sir – Open Doors is such an inspiring concept and glorious celebration of Oxford. Of the huge variety of events on offer, I enjoyed the unveiling of the gargoyles, the canal boats with their cheery bunting and the open gates of All Souls — how rare is that? — where a brass band played as you entered a chapel filled with golden angels.
There was a warm welcome everywhere and everyone seemed to be smiling. Indeed, of all the treasures of our city on view last weekend, the greatest I found was the generosity of the human spirit.
Congratulations and sincere thanks to the sponsors of this event and to all who gave so much of their time and effort.
Whatever may be the perceived or imagined differences in this city are dissolved in the open-hearted nature of this great event.
