A PUB turned into a sea of yellow and blue for a fundraising Oxford United day featuring members of the league-topping squad.
The White Hart, in Sheep Street, Bicester, put on the event to mark barman Jamie Parker’s 33rd birthday and help raise cash for the 12th Man fund, which helps the club buy players.
An afternoon of competitions and a visit from club mascot Ollie the Ox helped raise more than £1,000.
Landlady Sarah Rundle said: “It started off as a fancy dress thing for Jamie, but it just escalated. Somebody asked about the 12th Man fund and, when I found out what it was all about, I decided to donate 10 per cent of what we took. We’ve had lots of competitions to raise money.”
Mr Parker added: “It’s unbelievable the way this has taken off, and the club have been awesome.”
Midfielder Adam Chapman, who turned up with fellow players Ross Perry, Rhys Day and Steven Kinniburgh, said: “Anything to get the fans involved is great and we want to keep them on our side at all times. Everywhere we go we see Oxford shirts and car stickers so we know how much support there is.”
Mr Kinniburgh, who is on loan from Scottish side Rangers with fellow defender Ross, said: “We knew when we came down how well supported the club was, and you realise when you see the size of the stadium that it’s a big club.”
Mr Perry added: “It’s good to meet the fans and spend time with them to find out what they think.”
