SHOPS in Witney are being asked to decorate their windows on a pink theme for the town’s ninth annual breast cancer event.

Witney in the Pink Day on Saturday, October 3, is organised by the Witney Action Group of the Abingdon-based charity Against Breast Cancer and has raised thousands of pounds over the past eight years towards the charity’s groundbreaking research to find a vaccine to prevent breast cancer.

Organisers have been sending letters to shop owners asking them back the event by decorating their premises.

The pink-themed shop windows will be judged by the mayor of Witney, James Mills, who will be chauffeured round in a pink Mini Cabriolet.

The fun kicks off at 10am and there will be a full programme of street entertainment from a wide range of performers, including the Strawberry Fayre majorettes from Oxford, Witney Town Band, Ceroc Oxford, Clown Within, Hazazz belly dancers and Masons Apron clog dancers.

Jeanne Chattoe, chairman of the Witney group, said: “Last year, Witney in the Pink Day raised £5,000, and we hope to equal that this year.”

Pink Day organisers are looking for good quality bric-a-brac and books, as well as donations of cakes. Call Sue on 07867 656375 or email witneyinthepink@live.com for more information.
