FIREFIGHTERS left the scene of a workshop fire in south Oxfordshire this afternoon after more than 36 hours.
Crews were called to Oakley Wood Farm next to the A4130 by Crowmarsh Gifford, near Wallingford, left, at 10.45pm on Friday.
A highly flammable acetylene cylinder forced firefighters to close the road until 2.05pm today as they tried to cool the tank.
A fire service spokesman said: “Crews were confronted with a very well-developed fire involving three single-storey wooden workshops and a car-repair workshop.”
Yesterday morning, incident commander Bob Swanton said: “Fire crews fought throughout the night to prevent the fire spreading further to surrounding buildings and to cool cylinders, one of which is believed to contain acetylene.”
A fire service spokesman said the road reopened at about 1.30pm today.
A total of six fire engines, a control unit, water carrier and hose layer attended the incident.
