Summertown bounced back from last weeks defeat when they had only 12 players, to record their first win of the season in a competitive and highly entertaining fixture with Crowmarsh B in which plenty of great football and commitment was on display.
In the first match with the slope advantage Summertown penned Crowmarsh into their own half and peppered the goal with shots and crosses from both sides but good saves from Crowmarsh's keeper kept Summertown at bay. Slightly against the the run of play, James Kelly broke free and slotted in a well taken goal for Crowmarsh to which Summertown were able to respond and equalise through Matthew Staveley-Taylor.
The second half saw Crowmarsh use the advantage of the slope to push Summertown back and Kyle Orum in goal was kept busy and the defence had to work hard to keep the score level. A good interchange from Jake Taylor with Adam Shea saw Adam released wide on the right from the halfway line to race clear and drilled a shot into the far corner to give Summertown the lead, which was quickly increased when Jack Dark's shot couldn't be held and Staveley-Taylor poached his second goal by following up like Gary Lineker!
Both teams strived for another goal and Crowmarsh's Rio Burgoyns came close near the end of a high quality match to getting on the scoresheet with a shot from distance.
The second match followed a similar path - the Summertown slope encouraging the team going down it to attack more, but still a hard fought match with both teams determined to win. Through tidy approach play Summertown found themselves 2-0 up with goals from Alex Ansdell and Sam Winiarski, but Louis Haynes pulled one back to keep Crowmarsh in touch with a free kick that he rifled into the goal, just under the crossbar, that left the Summertown keeper groping fresh air.
In the second half James Othen, who was breaking up play and setting up his Summertown team-mates from midfield, burst into the penalty area and with his weaker left foot scored in the far corner. Haynes then scored his second, with a delightful goal breaking clear from the halfway line only to see his initial shot from 15 yards rebound off the keeper to which he then chipped the stranded goalie. Summertown's response was immediate and emphatic - working the ball straight up the other end down the right wing for Othen to smash the ball into the roof of the net from 8 yards.
Both teams worked incredible hard in the sun and produced two games of football that were a delight to watch and be a part of.
