POLICE were last night looking for an elderly woman dressed in a pink cardigan in connection with a jewellery scam.
The thief, thought to be in her 70s, called at the home of an 85-year-old woman in East Oxford, posing as a charity collector at 1pm yesterday.
The two pensioners shared a cup of tea before the burglar sneaked into a bedroom and stole jewellery.
Det Con Rhian Evans said: “The woman is described as being in her seventies, white, about 5ft 4ins and of medium build. She was wearing a pink cardigan.
“We would like to hear from anyone who saw this woman in the area at the time, or from anyone else she may have called on.
“I would also like to warn people to be vigilant to callers claiming to be from charities or organisations. Always ask for identification and never let anyone in your home until you’ve checked out their credentials.
“Ideally, you should never let anyone in without an appointment.”
Any information on the burglary to police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
