Sir – Once again I read of a traffic-related scheme to save Abingdon from the follies of its own council. Most of the people I know don’t go there unless they have to because the council has consistently failed to handle its traffic problems sensibly.
I would happily predict at least half its problems would be solved quite cheaply by linking the Lodge Hill exit southwards, as well as northwards onto the A34.
The fact that this was never done in the first place reveals how little was the forethought of those councillors who only saw their town as a suburb of Oxford, yet were quite happy to allow for Peachcroft Estate to be built!
As it is all southbound traffic, especially that to Didcot, can only exit via the ‘Marcham Interchange’, (made out to be to be far grander than a big roundabout).
