Sir – All too often local councils are vilified in these columns, so it is most pleasant to be able to praise them. At last feedback on bus-stops is being acted on.
The 16B route number has been added to bus-stops in Iffley Road, the D4 stop in Bonn Square has been relocated to where bus-drivers knew it ought to be from the first, and even stop E5 near the Castle has a notice announcing that it is going to be moved, presumably to where ordinary people could see that it always should have been. Brasenose College continues to be renamed Lincoln College, however, for reasons which are not clear.
The work on the pavements of Queen Street, although far from essential, is being conducted quickly without too much disruption, and does seem to be an improvement. Not to be forgotten is the smooth running of St Giles’ Fair, which although it owes a lot to the skill of the showmen, must also owe a lot to efficient council planning. How wonderful it would be if not only feedback, but also preliminary consultation were acted on, and money was saved in future by getting things right in the first place.
