MINI bosses yesterday celebrated the launch of two new models of the Oxford-built car, which is set to secure jobs at BMW’s Cowley plant.
The newcomers – the Roadster, right, and the Coupe –were unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and are still described as concepts. But BMW chief executive Norbert Reithofer revealed this month the cars will be built in Oxford.
BMW sales and marketing director Ian Robertson said: “We will produce both of these cars. I can’t give any further details at the moment, but they will be built in Oxford.
“These cars are really something. They are an expression of Mini design and the ability of the brand to evolve new concepts and create new segments.”
Also on show were two special editions, the Camden and the Mayfair, marking the 50th anniversary of the car.
