AN OXFORD bride started married life in style — by turning up to her wedding in one of Britain’s rarest cars.
Former Oxford High School pupil Camilla Scarlett, 26, of Blenheim Drive, Oxford, was driven to Magdalen College chapel in a 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, widely regarded as the world’s most expensive motor vehicle.
She married former Dragon School pupil Harry Moore-Gwyn, 34, a relative of Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, who loaned the car to the couple from his collection at the National Motoring Museum, in the New Forest.
Lord Montagu had planned to drive the couple himself but fell and broke his hip three weeks ago.
In 2005, a 1907 model of the car was given an insurance value in America of $35m (£21m).
On Sunday, the two Oxford University graduates were married by the Rev Michael Piret, before joining 180 guests for a reception in Kingston Bagpuize. The bride’s mother, Alison Scarlett, said: “It was a wonderful day for them, everything went perfectly.
“The car was fantastic. It looked so beautiful and congratulations must go to the driver, because I believe they are very difficult to handle.
“The weather was beautiful and for Camilla to be driven through Oxford in a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost was a lovely touch.”
