AFC Brightwell Youth, picked up all 3 points against a spirited AFC Henley side at, a sun drenched Black Cats Park.
Henley started the brighter though and were one ahead shortly after the kick off, when the lively Liam Painter latched onto a pass and finished past The Panthers goalkeeper, Josh Calvert. As usual, Brightwell dug in and were soon to turn the game round as first, Lloyd's flick on set up Louis Chainey to place home, then Matthew Holtom rounded the keeper to give Brightwell the lead and finally Louis returned the favour, with a flick on, for Lloyd to volley into the roof of the net, making it 3-1 at the break.
The 2nd half began as the first, with Henley doing the pressing and Brightwell seemingly happy to sit deeper and deeper. Inevitably Henley got back into the game, with a great 25 yard lob by Thomas Chaplin and the game was set up for a great final 15mins.
Both sides created chances and Brightwell can thank their captain and MoM, Jay Spencer, for some great defending that kept Henley at bay. Special mention must also go to AFC Henley keeper, Sam Pocock, who pulled off some amazing saves to keep his side in the game too.
As Henley pushed forward, The Panthers broke again and their goal machine, Toby Arup, wrapped up the points with a riffled shot into the roof of the net from 18 yrds, with just minutes to go.
An exciting derby that was played in the right spirit by both sets of players and supporters and also mention to referee, A Gifford, who was excllent. Marked 100/100 from both teams, he was a brilliant advert for grass roots officials. Well done.
