CLIMATE change protesters failed to shut down Oxford Airport yesterday.

More than 20 police officers were on hand to stop about 40 protesters entering the airport at Kidlington.

The protesters are angry at the airport's expansion plans.

The campaigners decided to have a picnic and played croquet next to the entrance instead. A man and a woman were later arrested for trespassing.

Extra security guards were patrolling the airport's perimeter throught the day to make sure protesters did not get in.

Climate Rush founder Tamsin Omond said: "We have made our point that Oxford is not the right place for a commercial airport."
