KAYLEE Bremner broke with tradition by proposing to her fiancé Dezi-Jay Smith in an Oxford pub because it was a leap year.
But the young couple opted for a traditional white wedding when they got married at St Mary the Virgin Church in Iffley last month.
The couple’s 14-month-old son Dante was at the church, and also attended the wedding reception at Rose Hill Social Club, along with more than 150 friends and family.
Mrs Smith, née Bremner, 23, and Mr Smith, 22, live with Dante in Celandine Close, Greater Leys.
Mrs Smith said: “We had a brilliant day and the only problem we had was Dante wondering why someone else was getting all the attention for a change.
“Proposing on February 29 was a bit unusual but it felt like the right thing to do at the time and fortunately Dezi-Jay said yes.
“I would advise other women to follow my example and propose to their partners on leap year — the worse thing that can happen is they say no.”
Ms Bremner employed a waiter at the Longwall restaurant, on the Oxford Business Park, Garsington Road, Cowley, to help her pop the question.
She said: “Dezi and I were having dinner with friends and when he went outside for a smoke I asked a waiter to deliver a ring I had bought, on a tray with his favourite drink.
“When the waiter came up to our table and put the tray in front of him, Dezi sat there for about 10 minutes stunned, just looking at it.
“Then he looked at me and said ‘Yes I will’ before grabbing hold of me and giving me a big kiss.”
Mr Smith, a warehouse operative for Unipart, said: “I was stunned when Kaylee proposed but after she did I was over the moon.”
