IT’S typical, isn’t it? We moan when the heavens open and yet we still complain when the temperature rises. Welcome to Britain.
But a row has broken out between Oxford Bus Company and some of its drivers over what they should wear during the heatwave.
The company insists on its drivers wearing trousers, while some want the right to turn up wearing shorts.
The bus company is right to demand its drivers — the public face of the company — make an effort to keep up appearances.
Though there are hundreds of workers across the city suffering in sweaty offices in suits, shirts and ties, there could be a ruling the smart shorts could become part of the official uniform.
But don’t worry, lads, this recent heatwave is sure to end abruptly. And soon. It is good that an organisation takes pride in the turn out of its staff. We only wish others – like the Royal Mail for instance – did the same.
Some postmen look as if they’re off to a fancy dress party.
