YOU asked ‘could the roll-out have gone better?’ (Oxford Mail, June 25) regarding South Oxfordshire District Council’s new waste collections. The short answer is ‘YES’.
One very good example is a 90- year-old lady who has difficulty walking and seeing. She received a phone call from SODC two weeks before the new collection started informing her everything was in place to collect her bins from her back door.
On the first week her bins were not emptied and, because she was so worried about it, I put all her waste, including food waste, in black bags, went to Redbridge, slipped under the radar, and put them in the landfill skip.
In a phone call to SODC I was told next week would be ok. Next week the same thing, except before the lorry drove off they were told about her bins and emptied them.
Another call to SODC and again the same story.
This week again the bins were left. Another call to SODC and this time the lorry did an about turn and came back to empty the bins.
So you can see it could and should be better.
My advice to Councillor Dodds and the rest of them is to forget about expenses, climb down from your ivory tower, take your blinkers off and then you may see the problems.
You may also see the asbestos dump in Cuddesdon Road is still there two weeks after saying it would be dealt with within 24 hours, you never know you may find some of your wheelie bins there as well.
