THOUGH Beatrice Bradley’s comments (Live with Nature, Oxford Mail, June 22), were eloquent, I must correct her ‘complacent man’ assumptions.

My letter’s gist was the irritation and lack of success of same subject repetition – in this case the ‘humans war against the animal’.

Nowhere do I state I’m anti-vegetarian. My daughter’s a fervent vegetarian and two of my grandchildren hadn’t tasted meat, until one ‘accidentally’ ate a superb Italian meat dish and now eats anything that’s home cooked with good quality ingredients – good lad!

Yes, I love vegetarian dishes. My bean and lentil pie with mint, garlic and ginger pastry signature dish recipe has travelled the globe more than I have. I will not resist good quality meat solely because Beatrice considers I’m exploiting animals and I’m glad I can eat anything as long as the ingredients are local, top quality and cooked properly.

Anyone telling me they don’t eat this or that irritates me. I’m suspicious of Beatrice’s final comment: “I am far from alone in having very pronounced views on a variety of topics. I just do not feel the need to see my views in print...’’ – after all those letters about fox hunting?

Come on, Beatrice. Limited success there surely, so at least stick to your guns.

Re: Tim Parker’s letter (Veggie is Healthy, Oxford Mail, June 23) Hey, if you’d “rather be a heavy tub of lard any day” -– go for it son. But I’ll stick to my balanced diet – OK?
