A British man raised and educated in Oxford was killed in a road accident while on honeymoon in Italy, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

Ben Hallwood died following the crash in Borgo Pace in the Italian region of Marche.

The 37-year-old aircraft electrician, who was brought up in Iffley and attended City of Oxford High School for Boys — now Oxford Community School — was travelling with his wife Madeline Wesley, 42, who was also injured in the accident on June 19.

The couple were living in Barcelona, having moved from Plymouth, Devon.

Mr Hallwood had two brothers, Toby and Joe, and children, Adam and Bryony.

In July 2007, during severe flooding, Mr Hallwood's car became stuck in floodwater while he was on his way to propose to his fiancee.

He had left his workplace in Kidlington to head for a flight in Bristol, but had to ditch his car on the A420 near Oxford.

He notified police as to what had happened, but when he returned he found his car had been towed away.
