Four workers from waste collection firm Verdant, the company responsible for the waste collection service in south Oxfordshire, have resigned in an employment dispute.
The firm was picked by South Oxfordshire District Council to operate its new waste collection scheme — which includes weekly food waste collections — from the start of this month.
However, the council has admitted there had been “teething problems" with the changeover.
A spokesman for the company said: “Municipal services contractor Verdant confirms that of the 70 members of staff, who transferred to its employment on June 7 in order that South Oxfordshire's new recycling, refuse and cleansing contract could be delivered as planned, four employees have tendered their resignation with immediate effect.
“Verdant respects the right of employees to air their opinions and so is investigating employment-related allegations.
“This situation has not and will not affect service delivery to local residents.”
This week, householders in Wallingford complained refuse sacks had still not been delivered to some homes and many had difficulty contacting the firm on its helpline.
