Police sniffer dogs have recovered half a million pounds worth of drugs in the past year, it has been revealed.
Between April 2008 and March 2009 Thames Valley’s specialist search dogs carried out 402 searches, including Oxfordshire.
They recovered Class A drugs worth an estimated street value of £435,835, more than £2,000 worth of class B drugs and £130,000 of Class C drugs.
The dogs were also responsible for recovering £85,000 in cash and two firearms.
Police have 11 Springer Spaniel and Labrador specialist search dogs and 30 general patrol dogs, which are all German Shepherds.
