GENERALLY, people seem united in their opinion that recycling is a good thing.
The thought of a plethora of bins lined up outside our homes filled many with dread, but recycling is now part of the household routine.
Last week, residents in south Oxfordshire were introduced to a £8m scheme aimed at radically changing the way waste is collected.
Only 44 per cent of rubbish is currently recycled, but the local authorities in the south of the county aimed to double that amount with the new system.
The district also became the first in Oxfordshire to offer a weekly food waste collection service.
Now residents would just like it to work.
Today we report on teething problems affecting the system.
Some households, mostly in rural areas, have not yet received waste bins or coloured sacks – while others have told of hours spent on the phone to find out what is going on.
A degree of patience is prudent in this country when anything new is thrust upon the population.
But we will be keeping an eye on the bin collections and hope creases are ironed out soon.
