AN INTRUDER who assaulted a woman in her home was still at large last night.

The 33-year-old woman was attacked at her house in Eastfield Road, Witney, at around 12.30pm yesterday.

Her attacker is believed to have entered the end of terrace house by the kitchen door before pushing his victim over, leaving her with minor injuries.

A weapon was not used in the attack.

The victim, who has not been named, passed out and when she regained consciousness the man was gone.

Officers are appealing for information about a white man with blond hair seen running along Eastfield Road and into fields next to the cul-de-sac shortly after the attack.

Det Sgt Howard Berry, investigating the incident, said: “This is a very unusual incident and I would like to reassure the community we have a team of detectives to identify the person responsible.”

A cordon was put up around the terrace of houses and the green opposite.

It is thought the victim is a mother-of-two and her children were at school at the time of the attack.

Ada Fielding, who lives in the road, said: “I’ve been told by others (the man) climbed over the back fence and got into the house that way.

“It’s not right for any young woman to be attacked in her home as this is a very quiet road.

She added: “I am more concerned about police catching the culprit.

“It’s such a quiet road, it’s unbelievable that somebody can be attacked.

“It has taken everybody by surprise. People are shocked to think that it’s something that can happen here. The green is where children play.”

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s scary. It has got to be something serious for all the police to be down here.”

Anyone with information about the incident should call Det Sgt Berry on 08458 505 505 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
